-Nintendo was founded September 23rd, 1889. That is NOT a typo, 1889, they originally made gaming cards. Their involvement in video gaming did not begin until the 1970s. They still make card games in Japan today.
-Nintendo means (roughly translated) Leave luck to heaven in Japanese.
-Mario’s original names were Mr. Video and Jumpman. Man that would have been as big a failure as Mortimer Mouse (Mickey’s original name).
-Mario wears overalls because of the graphics of the time. There was no way to differentiate where his arms were, so by wearing overalls the players were able to see them.
-The American Super Mario 2 was not the same as Mario 2 in Japan. American Super Mario 2 was called Doki Doki Panic where instead of Mario, you were a guy in a turban named Imajin. The Japanese Mario 2 we know as The Lost Levels in the Super Mario All Stars pack for the SNES.
-Zelda is named after author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s wife.
-Metroid is a combination of the words metro and android.
-Samus and the aliens in Metroid were inspired by Sigourney Weaver’s character in Alien.
